Overview
Don’t let knee pain hold you back from doing the things you love. At BEST we have a full range of treatment services for knee pain, injuries, and arthritis that do not require surgery. When necessary, Dr. Abbott offers a specialized CORI robotic-assisted surgical option for less invasive partial knee replacement and total knee replacement surgery. Dr. Abbott at BEST uses a Cori Surgical System for your knee surgery; a hand-held, radiation-free system that provides surgeons with enhanced surgical planning and robotic-assisted cutting tools designed to ensure optimal positioning based on a patient’s specific anatomy. This robotic-assisted approach is efficient and more accurate than traditional techniques.
What Makes Our Knee Care Different
BEST doesn’t just focus on same-day surgical procedures. We are committed to a continuum of care, from prepping patients before surgery, to assisting with the recovery journey. From initial care through rehabilitation and maintenance, we will be with you on every step of your wellness journey.
Pre-operative Physical Therapy
By strengthening the body through physical therapy and promoting regular movement, the patient's body is better prepared for surgery. This step also provides information about the type of rehabilitation that may be required following surgery and how to prepare your home environment for recovery.
Iovera Treatment
A form of focused cold therapy that will be applied to a specific nerve that will interrupt that nerve’s ability to send pain signals providing immediate relief that can reduce your pain before and after surgery. This greatly reduces the need for narcotic medications after knee replacement surgery.
Cori Robotic-Assisted Knee Surgery
A CORI robotic-assisted surgical procedure on the knee will take place to achieve the best fit and placement of your knee replacement for the best chance at maximum knee function after surgery.
Post-operative Physical Therapy
After the surgery, a specialist will design a customized plan to cope with post-op pain, rebuild muscle, strengthen the knee, and improve stability to assist in surgical recovery. We will also target your desired return to activities (ie. hiking, cycling, tennis, golf, etc.)
The Full Line Up of Surgical Knee Treatments
- Arthroscopy Knee arthroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure used to identify and repair problems in the knee joint. The doctor will make small incisions to place a 5 mm camera lens in the joint during the procedure. The camera will display high-definition images on a monitor, and your doctor can use the video images to guide small tools into the joint through separate small incisions. Arthroscopy can be used to remove or repair damaged cartilage, debride cartilage, repair ligaments, remove loose fragments, and remove inflamed tissues.
- Meniscus Repair A meniscus repair is a surgical procedure used to treat a torn meniscus, the cartilage that connects the thigh bone to the shinbone. During the process, the doctor will make a small incision over the knee and use the arthroscopy camera and small tools to repair the tear with sutures. If the tear is severe, your doctor may remove part or all of the meniscus.
- ACL Repair and Reconstruction The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the primary ligaments stabilizing and supporting the knee. ACL reconstruction is a surgical procedure used to treat a torn ACL. During the procedure, the doctor will remove the damaged ligament and replace it with a graft created from other soft tissues. Common areas for soft tissue harvest are the tendons in front of and behind the knee joint. This can allow patients the best chance of returning to sports activity after an injury.
- Robotic-Assisted Partial Knee Replacement Surgery A partial knee replacement is recommended when severe arthritis leads to pain, stiffness, and loss of mobility that’s affecting your quality of life. If the arthritis is limited to just one portion of the knee, that portion can be selectively replaced while maintaining the normal function of the ligaments and other normal areas of knee cartilage. Patients that can have partial knee replacement tend to recover more quickly than those that need full knee replacements.
