James D. Abbott is glad to be on board with BEST as the premier orthopaedic surgeon trained to perform thousands of complex surgeries each year. His responsibilities as an orthopaedic surgeon include diagnosing problems that affect muscles, bones, and joints, as well as treating degenerative diseases and infections. Dr. Abbott offers a specialized CORI robotic-assisted surgical option for less invasive knee replacement and total knee replacement surgery. This robotic-assisted approach is efficient and more accurate than traditional techniques.
Dr. Abbott has a doctorate from the Toledo School of Medicine, a Bachelor of Science from Ohio State University, and completed his residency and fellowship in sports medicine from the University of Louisville.
He has over 13 years in clinical practice, an average of 220 knee and hip cases per year and specializes in direct anterior total hip arthroplasty. He worked at multiple location branches for Mercy Health, Ohio. Prior hospital experience also includes Atrium Medical Center, Middletown, OH, and UC West Chester Hospital, West Chester, OH.
He is currently on the Adult Reconstruction Sub-committee Chairman for Southwest Ohio region of Bon Secours Mercy Health, serving since 2016, the Regional Medical Director for North and West markets since 2019, and the Vice-Chair of Orthopaedic Service Line for Southwest Ohio region of Bon Secours Mercy Health since 2020.
