He was formally educated beginning with his Bachelor of Science at Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio graduating in 2008. Upon completing his BA, he completed Medical school at Wright State University School of Medicine, Dayton, Ohio where he received a Doctor of Medicine in 2012. He completed his residency in 2016 and his PM&R board certification in 2017 from Emory University Department of PM&R, Atlanta, Georgia. 

Due to his vast work experience, he is an expert in his field. He worked at the Stephen D. Heis, M.D. and Associates (The PM&R Group)  as a partner and title of Medical Director responsible for performing a range of outpatient spine care, rehabilitation, and musculoskeletal care. Previously he was Chief of Medicine at Mercy Fairfield Hospital and was a medical executive Committee Member in 2019. 

Dr. Donald J. Staggs has multiple certifications from his ABPMR board certification, to his State of Ohio Medical License, Basic Life Support, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support. He is also a part of the Ohio State Medical Society, Spine Intervention Society, Academy of Medicine of Cincinnati, and the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
