Maged Hamza M.D. is a proud member of the Center For Spine & Pain Medicine division at BEST Health System. His focus at BEST is to help patients with Spinal Cord Stimulator treatment, as a specialist along with his expertise in interventional pain management.
He is recognized as a pioneer in the use of spinal cord stimulation and pain pump technology but is truly focused on matching the right treatment to each patient. That may include nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablation, injections, and other minimally invasive techniques.
Dr. Hamza joined the Center for Spine & Pain Medicine to bring in unique advanced expertise to better provide individually customized safe and effective care for patients who are tired of medical services that are not thorough or personalized. In addition to his position with BEST, he serves as a commissioned officer/captain in the US Air Force.
He is well known for a highly personalized approach that involves caregivers and family when needed. “Chronic pain does not get the same attention that other conditions do, and patients may go from specialist to specialist,” he says.
He received his Bachelor of Science in Anatomy and Physiology and his medical degree from Cairo University in Egypt. He completed an internship at University Hospital, College of Medicine, at Cairo University, followed by residencies in Anesthesiology and General Surgery at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson. As an assistant professor at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, he completed a fellowship in Pain Management.
During his time at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, Dr. Hamza became a respected leader in the field of interventional pain medicine. He was known for his innovative techniques and dedication to providing the highest quality care to his patients. His expertise in neuromodulation and spinal interventions made him a sought-after physician for those suffering from chronic pain conditions.
Dr. Hamza’s commitment to patient-centered care and his ability to effectively manage complex pain cases earned him recognition as one of Richmond, Virginia’s “Top Doctors” for five consecutive years. His reputation as a skilled and compassionate physician continued to grow, attracting patients from across the region seeking relief from their chronic pain.
Dr. Hamza joined Physician Partners of America based in Jacksonville, Florida from Eastern Virginia Medical School, where he was lead investigator researching innovative methods of diagnosing and treating pain. He then joined Coastal Health in northern Florida as a chief medical officer and medical director of the ambulatory surgery center.
Dr. Hamza is a Diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiology with a subspecialty in Pain Medicine and a Diplomat of the American Board of Medical Examiners. He is a member of 15 medical associations including the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians and the International Spine Intervention Society.
