MSK Ultrasound

MSK Ultrasound

Imaging is one of the most important steps in diagnosis. It is used to either help confirm whether or not a patient has a specific condition. Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves transmitted through a device in order to examine a patient’s organs, tissues, and blood vessels. A musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound is a specialized exam that looks specifically at your muscles and joints.

At BEST, we understand that a proper diagnosis is crucial when developing a treatment plan for recovery. Whatever the condition may be if you require an MSK ultrasound BEST is more than happy to provide one for you. Our mission is to relieve your pain and get you back to the quality of life you deserve.

Why You May Need an MSK Ultrasound

The goal of an MSK ultrasound is to determine the cause of your muscle or joint pain. For instance, if you have a lump you are concerned about an ultrasound will examine if it is fluid-filled or solid, where it’s located, and if it’s attached to anything. Answering these questions allows the doctor to develop an appropriate treatment plan with no further investigation needed.

If an injury to your tendon or muscle is suspected, the ultrasound will allow the specialist to see if it’s intact or torn. The examination can help determine how severe the injury is, clarify whether surgery is needed, and assess how well it is healing.

Some common diagnoses that may be evaluated by an MSK ultrasound include:

  • Bursitis
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Rotator cuff tears
  • Sprained ankle

Benefits of an MSK Ultrasound

A technologist or radiologist can examine your anatomy directly with ultrasound, such as how tendons move around joints or if a joint separates when stressed. At the time of imaging, we can pinpoint your problem area based on where you feel your symptoms.

Due to the fact that ultrasound uses no radiation, it can be safely performed on all patients, including pregnant women and babies. It is also very portable compared to other types of imaging.
