Joint Injection

Joint Injection

Joint pain can be a debilitating condition to live with. It can be caused by several conditions or injuries. A few conditions that can cause joint pain include autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, bursitis, osteoarthritis, strains or sprains, and injuries like fractures. When it comes to treatment for joint pain, you may want to consider joint injections to help alleviate your symptoms.

At BEST, we understand that joint pain can be challenging to live with. Severe joint pain can make simple tasks impossible due to excruciating pain. Joint pain can keep you away from work or other activities you enjoy. We offer joint injections as a treatment option for those experiencing joint pain. Our mission is to relieve your pain and get you back to the quality of life you deserve.

What is a Joint Injection

A joint injection is a minimally invasive procedure that can temporarily relieve pain caused by joint pain. This injection can be applied to any joint in the body including knees, hips, shoulders, wrists, and more. Despite not being a permanent solution to joint pain, it can provide long-term relief. In some cases, it can even provide relief from incurable conditions such as arthritis.

The types of joint injections available to patients include:

  • Corticosteroid Injections: A corticosteroid injection uses a combination of steroid medication and anesthetic to help reduce inflammation which will, in turn, alleviate joint pain.
  • Platelet-rich Plasma Injections: Platelet-rich plasma injections, also called PRP injections, will use a patient’s blood to stimulate and encourage the body’s natural healing process of the cartilage and tissues within the joints.

What to Expect

Joint injection procedures typically take 30 to one hour to complete, including recovery time and observation. X-ray imaging is usually used to guide joint injections. An IV is used to administer relaxant medications to the patient before the procedure. In the next step, the pain specialist applies topical anesthetic over the area where the injection will be given to the patient while he or she lies down on an X-ray table. During the injection, the doctor uses contrast dye to help guide them.
